You’re right. All this is a promising level of practicality.
As we’ve discussed before, I believe there are universal values to be found by a) carefully integrating human spirituality with cognitive science and b) using facts about the principles of behavior that lead to human and planetary flourishing as a basis for rational values.
Anything surfaced by such inquiry could inform many practices and environment designs that are central to many human lives.
Especially when done with a focus on developmental effectiveness, where human sovereignty is supported (our capacity for good, omni-positive choice-making). This could happen, for example, by designing for intentionality, rather than for addiction.
a) is related to John Vervaeke’s Awakening from the Meaning Crisis, b) to Sam Harris’-like notions of a science of morality. I think these inquiries could be of fundamental importance to the project of scaling up our capacities for values-articulation & design. (I’d also add c) for Forrest Landry’s work on immanent metaphysics / grounded ethics.)
I’d be super interested to hear you elaborate on these inquiries and how they integrate in the HS processes!
